Socials

The socials that the Squadron hold, are a great way of meeting everyone within the Squadron in a relaxed atmosphere, especially during the first term where everything can seem a bit daunting.

Formals

Formal events on the Squadron are where everyone dresses in their Number 1 Dress, such as at the Annual Dinner or Black Tie at events such as the Christmas Draw. As a student member, you would be expected to turn out to these occasions as usually, we host a number of special guests, however these evenings are so looked forward to that students rarely miss a formal event.

The uniform for these events (excluding black-tie) along with normal working uniform when at RAFC Cranwell is provided when you join the Squadron and is yours until you leave, and like within any millitary working environment, you are expected to maintain your uniform to a suitable standard. Many of the formal events include a lot of formality and tradition, which can give students a good indication of what life as an RAF Officer within a social environment will be like as well as providing a break from the student environment.

Such annual formal events held throughout the year are:
  • Christmas Draw,
  • Ladies Guest Night
  • Annual Dinner,
  • Summer Ball,
  • Handover Dinner.

Non-Formals

As well as the annual formal events, there are regular non-formal events organised by the student body every term, which allow the students a break from the stresses of student work and a chance to socialise with their peers, and in particular in the first term of the year, when the returning students have the opportunity to meet and welcome the new students onto the Squadron.
